Data Visualization: Parks in Alachua County

 During my internship at the Gainesville Sun, I developed a database of parks in the county to accompany this article. Readers could find a park near them by choosing a zip code, name or through a park's activities. I gathered all the scattered data and put it into one easy database for readers to enjoy. This was my first data visualization project, and it was completed using Caspio.

Data Visualization: Florida Education Statistics by County

This map was created to make county education data easier for readers to comprehend and compare with other Florida counties. The map was made with Adobe Flash.  

Video: Gainesville crafters go online to sell homemade goods

This video and accompanying story was completed as part of my senior capstone course in online media. This trend story covered how small businesses in Gainesville used the Internet to bring their local goods to a wider audience.

 I interviewed the co-founders of Fracture on how they became a successful tech startup in Gainesville, Fla. This video was edited with Final Cut Express.

This story took more investigative work obtaining the phone numbers and the taken-down video. I went as far as knocking on the sorority's door for a comment.  

Study finds Internet use may boost seniors' brain activity

I love reading stories about how technology affects people. I localized a national study about the Internet's impact on older adults. It was published in the Gainesville Sun.   

Students balance water buckets on head for charity

I covered this story and shot video of the event at the same time. You can view the Walking for Water video here.  

Harlem students tour campus

To inspire his middle school students to attend college, a Harlem, N.Y., math teacher raised funds  for his students to visit UF.

UF students puck off at underwater hockey clinic

I've written a couple of stories about UF's off-beat clubs. This story was featured on the college section of The Huffington Post. 

Gainesville's next mayor part of nationwide trend

I localized a national story about more counties electing gay political representatives. Speaking to a mayor who was getting sworn into office that same day was exciting.
